Candlemas - our SNPC shared service

We were delighted to share our Candlemas service with our sisters and brothers from our partnership churches, Towcester Road Methodist and Abbey Centre Baptist.

During the service, we remembered the feast of Candlemas.  This is the day when we remember Jesus being brought as a baby to the temple for the special service to dedicate the baby to God.

Two of those who were in the temple, who had both been long faithful but without seeing any reward, met Jesus and recognised in him the Saviour of the World. Simeon (one of these who was waiting) prayed a wonderful prayer which is a regular part of the prayer of the Church

For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have revealed before the face of all peoples, to be a light to lighten the Gentiles, and to be the glory of your people Israel.

This day is called Candlemas because it was traditionally the day when all the church candles for the year were blessed.  We lit candles together to remind us of the light which lightens us.

You can hear here the covenant prayer which we pray each year together to cement our fellowhip.
