At St. Benedict's, we are able to record the talks given during our 10am Sunday and other services.

Joy - Sunday 20 May 2012, based on John 17:6-19.  In the Gospel reading, Jesus prays that for his disciples, that his joy may be made complete in them.  Jonathan explores this theme of joy and how it relates to our daily lives.

 

Holy Spirit - Sunday 13 May 2012, based on Acts 10:44 - 48.  Marcus talks about the impact of responding to the power and love of the Holy Spirit and allowing it to work within us.  He also makes reference to the other readings set for the day - John 15:9-17 and 1 John 5:1-6.

 

I am the True Vine - Sunday 6 May 2012, based on John 15:1-8.  Jonathan reads this Gospel passage and then explores the image of Jesus as the vine and us as his branches.

 

During our 10am Morning Worship service on Sunday 29 April 2012, two members of our congregation about their experiences of resurrection in the workplace.

 

First we hear from Mike Hogg, who talks on the theme of "Failing Forward" - how in the ashes of failure lie the flames of future of success.

 

School Resurrection? - We then hear from Chris Newton, who talks to Jonathan about her experiences as a Head Teacher of working with pupils, parents and teachers to turn round a failing Primary School.  She explores how from disruption and challenge can come new life.  The recording starts part way through her interview, when she is describing the start of the school lunch break on her first day at the Primary School.

 

I am the Good Shepherd - Sunday 29 April 2012, based on John 10:11-18.  At our 8.45am Holy Communion, Marcus talked about how we handle relationships with people that we find challenging and suggests that we should take our lead from Jesus - the Good Shepherd.

 

God who acts - Sunday 22 April 2012, based on Luke 24:36-48.  Easter reminds us that our God acts... he does things!

 

Peace - Sunday 15 April 2012, based on John 20:19-31.  Jonathan reflects on how we can work to achieve true peace in our lives.

 

Easter Day - Sunday 8 April 2012, based on Mark 16:1-8 and 1 Corinthians 15:1-11.  Marcus and Benedict Bear talk to the children and their families about the resurrection of Jesus.

 

 

 


Displays in Church: 

We also put on displays in church to celebrate key events in the life of the church and to help with spiritual growth.  Our first display in May 2011 on the History of the English Bible was produced to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the King James Version of the Bible.  To view this interesting and informative display on the English Bible and the birth of the King James Version, please press here.
